There is a connection in the Christian scriptures between God being described as the rock, that which is steadfast and immovable, and him being a shelter for those in need. I find both of these metaphors comforting. From the poetry of the psalmist David: “He will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.”
